The cost of a new dependency

When a note grows too large it becomes its own file. Nothing fancy, and nothing to maintain.

Most of my notes live in plain text files. They open instantly, sync anywhere, and will still be readable in twenty years. That is a hard combination to beat.

One folder per year, one file per topic, and an index that links the pieces together. That is the whole system, and it has not changed in a while.
